    Please help.
I'm at the end of my patience with Vista.
For the life of me I can't get it to burn a CD.

It was all working fine up until a few days ago.
I suspected it migth be virus related because it all started after downloading a movie.
I scanned with Norton but it didn't pick up anything.
When I tried to open the avi file I got a message telling me it was not a avi file but had an avi file extension. Since then I've had the problem.

I can see the CD drive in Windows Explorer.
I can read cds or dvds but it will not read a blank disc.

I have tried uninstalling the CD drive that didn't help.
I can't burn to disc from Windows Explorer or from Nero.
Nero tells me something about logging on as Adminstrator but as far as I can see I am logged in as Adminstrator.
One more thing. I cold have sworn the Cd drive was D: but now it comes up as F:???

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

First I'd try finding and removing that possible virus. Scan your computer using Windows Defender and Windows One Care's online virus scanner.

    Defender doesn't pick up anything.

OneCare scan causes the computer to shut down and restart.

I've tried a Norton scan but 8 hours later and its still running, that can't be right.

    FWIW I installed RegCure.

Seems like you do have a virus. I would let Norton scan for as long as it needs. Make sure it's up-to-date with it's virus definitions.

I don't recommend any of those so called registry cleaners. They are all useless and most of them are viruses themselves.

I ended up re-installing Vista and that seems have to cleared everything up.
All the functionality that I had lost is back.
    Thanks
